Testing. Check! 1, 2, 3.

I always find it really funny when the electrical guys come up on stage, bump the mike loudly and say, "Chhhheck. Chhhhheck. Testing. 1, 2, 3." So, the first thing that came to my mind as I sat down to write this post was: Testing! Check! Do these pictures work?!

I'm proud and very happy to announce that I finally own a camera. A real camera. You know - the DSLR type. One that I can play around with. This is exciting as it's a big step up from me. No more grainy, noisy photos. No more taking photos early in the morning to get that perfect light. No more sitting glum on a rainy day thinking, shoot, there's no sun today, that means no photos, no posts. No Sir-ee. Not for me. Well, at least not until I figure out how to actually use this thing.

This also means that I am now on a search (hunt) for a new camera bag. And I'm thoroughly confused. So, if you've used any of these bags and have suggestions, I will gladly take them! Choices are: Ephiphanie, TheIt, Kelly Moore and Emera. If you use or have used any of these bags, please do post a comment below with your pros and cons!

Also, here are my inaugural shots. Every time there's a new camera in the family, inaugural shots have been those of my parents in their PJs. Which, we (I) decided not to scar the world with. So here you are, random shots of random things in my room. Enjoy!

LwW Loves: Brownie

Say Hello to Brownie!

My very own vintage baby. All thanks to my lovely grandma, who kept it for so many years. Only to fall into my hands. I'm really excited about Brownie. I can't wait to scrounge Old Delhi shops to find old 620 spools for this camera.

Another trick I learnt is that I can re-spool a 120 spool into the 620 spool. There's just one thing though. I need to find a 620 spool first. If anyone knows where I can find/order a *cheap* 620 spool, please let me know! I would be eternally grateful.

Though I can't take pictures from this lovely old hag, I can take pictures of her! Welcome to my new obsession.

LwW Loves: The Koolaburra

LwW is loving the Koolaburra boots! Watch out UGGs, you have some serious competition. 

Although they look similar (the Koolaburras are easily mistakable as UGGs to the untrained eye) the Koolaburras are sassy yet casual, edgy and very symmetrical. They dare to go beyond the regular UGG and are not for the faint of heart.

My favorites include the Haley, Savannity, the Taylor and the Sadie Studded Buckle Boot (no longer available!). When I say they're not for the faint of heart, I meant be prepared to shell out $300+ on a pair of boots. That's a little steep considering you can get a sturdy pair of UGGs for half of that. But like I said, Koolaburras are the next UGGs and are taking the scene by storm. If you're a GILT member make sure you check out the Koolaburra sale for what's left! ($119+)

On a side note, LwW is also loving Kate Hudson rock the red pants!

LwW Loves: Feather Skirts

LwW is loving, no wait is totally bonkers for the feather skirt! You can also find D.I.Y. feather skirts at WhoWhatWear!

Ways to wear it:
For a party, I'd pair it with a plain white or a black tee (specifically if the skirt is black), a fitted blazer, a statement necklace and high pumps. 

In the summer, I'd wear it with a broad belt with a statement embellishment and a light printed blouse.

For a boho-chic look, pair it with short tan cowboy boots, a tan leather belt and a leather biker jacket.

LwW Loves: Knots and Crosses

Winter! My favourite time of year (in India). You'll hear me say this a lot if I'm writing from here. My favourite thing about winter, jumpers! I love to wear my jumpers with a white or off-white based shirt or blouse underneath. But, an excellent accessory to the jumper and shirt is a black ribbon tie. At other times, I like to use a narrow width scarf and tie a big loose bow.

To get this look, you can do either of two things. If you went to the same Uni as Cat and I, you could probably just use your black neck tie. 

Else, pick up a narrow width black satin ribbon and cut it to your ideal length and tie a double knot, setting both lengths of the ribbon upwards, and you're rocking the look! 

Tying the knot (Just in case!):

• First, tie a simple knot. 
• Then, placing one length over the other, take the length (that naturally comes) at the bottom and face it upwards. 
• Cross the bottom length over the top, then under and through the loop (second simple knot of the double knot).
• Pull the lengths so they make up the knot and yank and set the ribbon so that they sit fancy side up.

LwW Loves: Oversize Gold Watch

LwW Loves: Oversized Gold Watch! I've been waiting for a bit to do this post and then I just forgot about it. My friend and I were getting our watches around the same time, but her's got lost in transit and I could not bring myself to put this up. 

Until. 

My friend got her watch! *throws confetti* 

Well, its definitely doing the trends. But it looks a-mazing. Try out a good size for yourself. Men's watches may be too big, but most of 'em have come out with dials that look comfortable on a woman's wrist. I wear a Guess Gold Crystal Dial watch. Though I am also loving Michael Kors Golden Oversize Runway watch!

LwW Loves: Ikkat Notebook

LwW is loving Ikkat, a traditional Indian printing technique. Its mostly found on clothing like Sarees or handloom products like silk and cotton. Its mainly a dyeing technique, sort of like a tie-dye. The difference between them however, is that in a tie-dye process the fabric is woven first and then dyed, while in Ikkat work the threads are bound and dyed first and then woven into the fabric. Ikkat work is very common in India but you will find versions of the Ikkat process in other Asian and some South-American countries as well. 

In India, Ikkat work is mostly a cottage industry, ie, very small scale industries mostly produced and sold by village artisans. 

Ikkat work has been taking the world by storm. You can now find Ikkat prints on bags, cushions and even notebooks. I found this notebook in Fabindia and fell in love at first sight. It has great colors and is a painted impression of an Ikkat print.

LwW Loves: Funkanatomy Earrings

LwW loves Funkanatomy's handmade earrings! We got two pairs, the Hot Pink Disco Green and the Peaches and Cream. 

Like the name, Funkanatomy's earrings and their titles are totally honest and funky. You can check out Kirin's collection here and buy them online. They are  extremely affordable and much, much better than all the commercial stuff you get in the markets. You can also check out Kirin's blog here. She's really funny and kinda hyper, which makes me love her so much! There's not a dull moment around Kirin.

LwW is loving this Lipsy sequin dress paired with the Great Plains Red Rose handbag, seen here. 

Its a great party outfit, and personally I think it goes really well with the red clutch. I love the sweetheart neck, it looks great on everyone and shows just the right amount of skin. 

There's no dressing down this dress. But paired with a light colored (I'm thinking grey) boyfriend blazer with its sleeves rolled up would lighten up the look and make it look a little smarter. What do you think?

LwW Loves: Cascading Braid

LwW Loves cascade braiding. Its quite simple and relatively quick (once you get the hang of it) and looks intriguing and amazing at the same time! 

To re-create the cascading braid, here's an attempt towards a tutorial:

• Try to comb out or straighten your hair a little bit so it doesn't tangle. Needless to say, if you're lucky to have straight or fine hair go on to step 2.

• Grab a big chunk over the top of your left ear and your parting and divide these in two for your top and middle strands of the braid.

• Take the remaining lock of hair behind your ear in your other hand. This should be the bottom most and longest strand that will go all the way around the back of your head. 

• Start with braiding these strands by taking the middle strand over the top strand. The top strand should fall over the bottom strand. This is so you can take the bottom and cross it over the middle strand that you've already braided. The result should look like the picture below where the bottom and middle strand cross each other in an X. The bottom strand should be straightened out to look like the top part of an X and the middle strand the bottom. (Phew!)

• Since you've left the top most strand hanging, take another chunk from the crown of your head (preferably a similar sized chunk so that you have about 5 to 6 top strands in your braid) and follow step 4. 
• Repeat with with all the top strands until you reach your right ear. Cross the middle and bottom strands twice to tighten your braid and use bobby pins to fasten the braid.
  Tip: Try using two (or in case your hair is as thick as mine, three) bobby pins and try to create an X. This way the bobby pins keep each other in place and dont undo. Use a third right through the center just to make sure.

The final product should look something like this:

I like keeping it on the side since its so hot and humid these days and keeps my hair timid. Otherwise it becomes a nest.

Its a pretty way to brighten up any outfit and go from day to night just by adding this bag. Its small enough to fit into a bigger 'day' handbag and big enough to fit all your necessities - small camera, phone, card holder, money, lipgloss and keys! 

Since its red, it goes with all colors as well. I like pairing this with a black dress and grey boyfriend blazer for a night out. Its chain is long/short enough for it to comfily sit on your shoulder while you dance. Very functional, convenient and pretty!
